What is Concrete Pumping?

Simply put, concrete pumping is the process of pumping liquid concrete to where it will ultimately be poured. Using mechanical means to pump concrete is far faster than traditional methods, and can be a huge aid to the development timeline of your construction projects in the Cayman Islands. The increased speed of concrete pumping is a distinct advantage, and the accuracy of mechanical pouring is superior to the accuracy of older methods. Another distinct advanced of this accuracy is fewer operation stoppages and attendant delays. The sheer volume of concrete that mechanical pumping enables us to pour will ensure your project is completed on time and budget. From concrete custom homes and pools, to commercial shell construction projects. You can trust Cayman Structural Group and Cayman Concrete Pumping to get the job done.

Another advantage of the mechanical method is the cost savings in labor costs. As labor is a large part of the cost of any construction project, these savings can benefit both the construction project and the customer. Using a single machine to do work that previously took multiple machines and more workers to accomplish increases efficiency, frees workers up to do other tasks, and makes the job site less crowded and dangerous throughout the process.

Mechanical pumping is also a more environmentally-friendly way of pouring concrete, something that helps uphold the pristine beauty of the Cayman Islands. The process uses less water than traditional methods of pouring concrete. Not only is this good for the environment, it also improves the strength of the concrete, and using less water in the process of pouring concrete means fewer cracks and less shrinkage as the concrete cures. Your concrete will be stronger and will require less maintenance over time as the structure is more structurally sound and durable.

There are two basic types of pumps used in the concrete pumping process. The first kind of concrete pump is called a “boom” pump. Boom pumps use a robotic arm operated by remote control to place the concrete, and can pump the concrete at high volumes with excellent accuracy. As a result, they are often used in larger, more complicated construction projects. The mechanical arms can be set to reach over the top of buildings or other construction equipment to pour the concrete exactly where it supposed to go, even if the ultimate pouring location is somewhere other methods will not reach without using a much slower, more labor-intensive process.

The second type of concrete pump is known as a “line” pump. These pumps use a flexible hose, often made of steel, to get the liquid concrete to the location where it is to be placed. Line pumps are used for smaller projects like sidewalks or swimming pools. Line pumps have all the same advantages as boom pumps, but they are most often used for projects closer to the ground.

Regardless of which type of pump is utilized on your job site, mechanical pumping of concrete is far faster, more precise and simply more efficient than the older mix-and-pour methods. Projects that might have been impossible otherwise, or at least extremely expensive with old methods, can now be achieved with less expense for the property owner.
